Thought of the Week
I See You
I attended college in the 70’s and my school was considered liberal, open minded, progressive. But racisms was still rampant. I remember being in class, especially upper-level literature classes and I would be the only African American; sometimes there might be one other. I would raise my hand to answer a question or to make a comment. The professor would allow me to make my comment or ask my question, but what followed really bothered me. He would not say anything, just give me a blank stare. It was as if he had not heard what I said or even worse that I was even there. My fellow students picked up on this snub and would act the same. Later, a classmate would repeat my comment almost verbatim and their statement would be acknowledged. I began to feel invisible.
Sometimes in our Christian walk, we might feel invisible. Maybe a prayer seems to have gone unanswered. Maybe we’ve endured a long spell of illness. We ask, “Does God see what I am going through? Does anyone even know or care?” I am here to answer those questions. God does see you. His eyes are fixed on you during your waking hours and even while we are sleeping. The Lord Jesus is ever praying and interceding for you that you will grow, be victorious, be encouraged, be conformed into His image. My mom had a copy of the poem “Footprints in the Sand” in her bathroom. The poem’s speaker asked Christ why there were only single footprints when he was at his worst and most challenging times in life, implying Christ had deserted him when he needed him most. The Lord’s reply was the single footprints were the times when I carried you. God sees you and is ever with you. I am encouraged by the lyrics of the song, Never Alone, and you be encouraged too.
Never Alone by Walter Hawkins
Never Alone, I don’t have to worry 'cause I am never alone
He walks beside me all the way
He guides my footsteps every day
I’m Never Alone.
